Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
The main goals of a library’s interlibrary loan department are to request materials from outside the library’s system for its users, loan materials to other system libraries, and to manage receiving and processing these loaned materials. Constant updating of the records is needed since record keeping plays an important role in every aspect of interlibrary loan. In an integrated system, many types of records work together to perform a variety of functions. The Interlibrary Loan module manages interlibrary loan request, brief item (temporary interlibrary loan copy), charge (check out), discharge (check in), and bill (fine/fee) information.
Sending Interlibrary Loan Requests to OCLC
Interlibrary loan wizards can send requests and receive replies from OCLC. SirsiDynix Symphony systems configured to use the Interlibrary Loan module are delivered with Interlibrary Loan Request formats and an OCLC Connections policy to facilitate this process. For more information about OCLC interlibrary loan requests, see FAQs: How do I configure my system to send requests and receive replies from OCLC Interlibrary Loan?.
