Place Hold Wizard
The Place Hold wizard is used to place holds on library materials.
To place a hold on an item

In the Holds group, click the Place Hold wizard. |

Do one of the following: |
|

In the User ID box, scan the user ID. |
|
•
|
Type the user ID in the User ID box, and click Get User Information. |
|
•
|
If the Current button (Current Search) is available, click the button to select the last user record that was displayed, modified, or added. |
|

Do one of the following. |
|
•
|
Scan the item ID in the Item ID box. |
Note: If you want to use an RFID pad device to scan items, be sure to scan them one at a time so you can perform the appropriate action for each item. If you place more than one item on the RFID pad at a time, the RFID pad scans all the items in rapid succession, and WorkFlows only displays the information for the last item scanned.

Type the item ID in the Item ID box, and click Get Item Information. |

Under Hold Info, complete the following information as needed. For more information on these fields, go to Frequently Used Hold Fields. |

Do one of the following. |
|
•
|
Select the Mail Item to User check box if the item is to be mailed to the user using Books by Mail instead of held for pickup at the library. |
The check box displays only if Display Mail Flag is selected in the wizard properties.

|
In the Pickup At field, select the pickup library. |
If this field is left blank, the default library is the station library of the login that is used to place the hold.
Note: Selecting the Mail Item to User check box disables the Pickup At field.

In the Expires box, use the Calendar gadget to select an expiration date. |
|
•
|
If the Delivery Method field is active, select the delivery method that will be used to ship the item to the user using Books by Mail. This field is required if the Mail Item to User check box is selected. |
Values in the Delivery Method list are defined in the Mail Service policy wizard. Once the Delivery Method is selected, the Estimated Shipping Cost field, if it is configured in the wizard properties to display, is populated based on the Shipping Cost policy.

In the Comments box, add any comments. |
|

|
In the Date Suspended box, use the Calendar gadget to select a beginning date of the hold’s suspension. |
When a hold is suspended, the suspension period begins at 00:01 on the beginning suspension date.

In the Date Unsuspended box, use the Calendar gadget to select the ending date of the hold’s suspension. |
When a hold is unsuspended, the suspension period ends at 00:01 on the ending suspension date.

Under Level/Range, select a Level option and a Range option. |
Note: If your library is a single library system, the Range options do not display, and range is automatically set to Library.

Under Recall Status, select a recall type. |
|
•
|
If you want the hold to be first in the queue, select the Make Hold First in Queue check box. |
|
•
|
If the Reserve Hold check box displays, and you select this check box, the hold can be filled with a reserve item or non-reserve item. If you clear this check box, the hold cannot be filled with a reserve item. |
Note: The Reserve Hold check box displays only if the Display Hold Reserve wizard property is selected.
If the hold is successfully placed, click one of the following options.

Place a Hold for Another User to place a hold for another user. |
|
•
|
Place Another Hold for this user to place another hold for this user. |
|
•
|
Modify Hold to make changes to this hold. |
|
•
|
Remove This Hold to remove the hold you just placed. |
|
•
|
Close to exit the wizard. |
Important Considerations When Using this Wizard
|
•
|
If a user record or item record has any exceptions, a status alert window may display. If your site uses the User Groups feature and this user’s responsibility level is LINKED, then this user will inherit the delinquency status of the worst-case user in the group. If a user in the same group is delinquent, blocked, or barred an alert window will appear. |
