Check In Issues of a Serial Wizard
The Check In Issues of a Serial wizard guides you through the process of checking in serial issues delivered to the library. If you are using a SICI barcode to check in an issue, see the method defined in Checking In Issues by Barcode.
To check in issues of a serial
1
In Item Search, identify the title you want to check in. A table of titles that meet your search criteria appears. When a title is highlighted, detailed information appears on the Description and Call Number/Item tabs below the search list table. To see more information, click Detailed Display. |
2
Click Check In Issues to display information details for the next predicted issue of the title found. If more than one control record is associated with a title, the List of Controls Found on Lookup window appears. Select one, then click Check In Issues to display the next predicted record for that control. |
3
If a title retrieved by the search does not have an associated serial control record, a message appears to inform you that the title is not under serial control, and you will have the option to type a new search or create a control for the title you selected. For more information, go to the Create Serial Control Wizard topic. |

If comments, notes, or instructions defined on the Extended Information Tab exist for the serial control, these special instructions appear automatically. Comments specific to the issue being checked in also appear. Click OK to continue the checking in the issue. |
Serial control instructions may also be viewed during the receipt process by clicking the Special Instructions button appearing above the basic control information. Issue specific instructions for issues other than the one being received may be displayed by clicking Receipt Status on the Expected Tab.
5
On the Next Issue Tab, verify that the issue displayed is the one that is expected and that the appropriate number of copies were received, and click Check In Now. |
6
If the issue and copies are not the same as displayed for receipt, see the related topics for each situation. |
7
If the issue has routings, the lists will appear. Each routing list appears separately and you will be prompted to print, or not print, each one in order. If you select to print and a printer is not defined in wizard properties, a system message will appear, and the list will not be printed. |
Note: For more information about printing routing lists, see FAQs: Creating and Modifying Routings.
8
If items are being created by the receipt, a confirmation window appears with automatically generated item IDs next to the copies created. If properties are not set to automatically create items, a section where library assigned barcodes may be entered appears. Scan or type a barcode into each Item ID box. |
9
When the issue is received and any items have been created, basic issue information and the number of copies received appear in the Issue Received window. The Distribute Copies Received table displays the distribution holding code, copies received, MARC holdings created, copies added to the catalog, and routing information. Click the Holding Code glossary to view details about the distribution. If you are checking in more than one consecutive issue of a serial, you may click Next Issue. If all current issues have been received for this serial control, you may be prompted to generate additional predictions or receive the issue without a prediction. |
After checking in an issue, you may click the following.
