MARC Import Utility Wizard

The MARC Import Utility wizard imports files of bibliographic or authority records from your workstation to the /Unicorn/Marcimport directory on the SirsiDynix Symphony server. Once imported to the /Unicorn/Marcimport directory, files of records can be listed, viewed, or removed. The records can then be added to the SirsiDynix Symphony database with reports that load the records.

The authority records may be in the same file as bibliographic records. The MARC Import Utility wizard separates the bibliographic and authority records into files so each can be loaded by reports separately. As part of the import process, SirsiDynix Symphony first creates a file for bibliographic records in the
/Unicorn/Marcimport directory on the server and writes any bibliographic records to this file. A file is also created in
/Unicorn/Marcimport/Authtemp on the server, and any authority records in the import file are written to this file. As part of the process, SirsiDynix Symphony checks for the presence of empty files and removes them.

The Load Bibliographic Records report in the MARC Import report group loads the file of bibliographic records. The Load Authority Records report in the Authority report group loads the file of authority records.

To import files of bibliographic or authority records

Do not use the Prepare option if the authority file was imported using the MarcImport wizard.
