MARC Import Utility Wizard Properties

You can change current system settings and defaults in the MARC Import Utility wizard using the Property window. The MARC Import Utility wizard allows you to set the following properties.

Display Property Page

The Display Property Page value allows you to choose when to display the MARC Import Utility wizard’s Property window. Click one of the following options:

Wizard Startup – Displays the Set Properties window the first time you access the wizard until you end the wizard session or log off the client.
Never – Does not display the Set Properties window as part of the wizard workflow. If Never is selected and you want to open the Set Properties window, point to the wizard’s toolbar button, right-click, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.

Depending on the value selected in Display Property Page, defaults may appear as the first step of the wizard. Property values that are changed in the first step of a wizard are retained only until the right-click method is used to set properties.

Behavior

On the Behavior tab, select or clear any of the following check boxes.

Use BIP – Select this check box to specify that the Books in Print load format is used when importing bibliographic records.
Use Non-MARC Microlif – Select this check box to specify that a non-MARC load format is used when importing bibliographic records. When you select this check box, it activates the Load Format list.

Load Format – From the Load Format list, select the default load format to use when translating bibliographic records into MARC 21 or flat ASCII format. The default load format is MICROLIF.

Do not change the Load Format default value unless you have attended SirsiDynix’s Application Program Interface (API) training. The other formats listed in the Load Format list are used by other import utilities and API tools.

Defaults

SirsiDynix Symphony supports two kinds of bibliographic data, standard MARC 21 and flat ASCII. Records in other formats, such as COSATI, must be converted to one of these formats by the MARC Import Utility wizard. The format list boxes allow you to select default format values for the records to be converted, and to specify which format will be used for the conversion. The format list values are derived from the library’s Format policies.

Catalog Format – In this list, select the default catalog format to use for imported records. The imported records are converted to MARC 21 format from flat ASCII format during the import process. The default catalog format is MARC.
Authority Format – In this list, select the default authority format to use for the imported records. The imported records are converted to MARC 21 format from flat ASCII format during the import process. The default authority format is TOPICAL.
