Print Custom Labels Report

The Print Custom Labels (Printlabels) report prints spine and pocket labels using the specified customized label template. Templates can be created and modified using the Label Designer wizard.

The printer used to print these custom labels must support printing graphics.

This report contains the following tabs.

See the tab topics for more information about making selections on these tabs.

If you do not select at least one item ID on the Items IDs tab, or make at least one selection on the Item Selection, Call Number Selection, or Title Selection tab, the report will create labels for all items in the database. In this instance, the report will display a warning message, and you must click Yes before the report can be scheduled. Or, you can click No, then make selections and choose at least one item ID, and reschedule the report.

On the Item IDs tab, you select specific item IDs for which to print labels. Use the Spine Labels for Items gadget to select IDs. Type the item ID and the number of labels you want to print. The gadget retains the order of the item IDs as they are typed.

Since this report relies on the templates produced with the Label Designer wizard, the number of labels printed per item relies on the number of labels selected in the Item ID gadget multiplied by the number of label sets per item selected in the template. The following math will be performed: Number of Labels (in the gadget) x Label Sets Per Item (in the template) = Number of Label Sets Printed Per Item.

For example:

If you type 1 in the gadget and Label Sets Per Item is 1, 1 x 1 = one label set per item.
If you type 2 in the gadget and Label Sets Per Item is 1, 2 x 1 = two label sets per item.
If you type 1 in the gadget and Label Sets Per Item is 2, 1 x 2 = two label sets per item.

On the Label Template Tab, only bibliographic templates are listed for selection. Lines in the label template file have a maximum length of 80 characters. If the text on a line exceeds 80 characters, the text will be truncated to 80 characters.

On the Sorting tab, it is possible to select a no-sort option.

If you select the None sort option, and you have entered item IDs, the labels will print in the order you entered the item IDs.
If you select the None sort option, and you have not entered any item IDs, the labels will print in whatever order the records were processed.
If you select the Call Number or Item ID sort, the labels will print in the selected order, no matter whether or not you selected item IDs.

On a single library system, even though the Library value will appear in the Call/Copy element list of values for a template, the library name will not print on the label when the template is used by the Print Custom Labels report. If you want the library name to print on the labels produced by this report, you will need to add the library as a Text element in the label template.
