FAQs: Understanding Properties in WorkFlows

Where can I modify properties?

The following list shows the various places in WorkFlows in which you can modify property settings.

Default properties can be changed within the flow of a wizard if the Display Properties Page option in the wizard properties is set to Wizard Startup.
The Property window for a wizard can be displayed by right-clicking a wizard button on a toolbar, and selecting Properties from the shortcut menu.
The Session Settings wizard can be used to modify properties shared by wizards on a toolbar. The User Access policy controls whether a user login is permitted to use the Session Settings wizard.
If the Review Settings Each Session check box is selected in the wizard properties for the Session Settings wizard on the Academic Reserves, Acquisitions, Selection Lists, or Reports toolbar, the Set Session Settings window appears as the first step in a wizard workflow the first time you select a wizard on those toolbars during the WorkFlows session.

When I modify properties, how long do my settings last?

Changes you make to the properties last for the duration of the WorkFlows session.

Who has access to the Behavior, Defaults, and Helpers tabs in the Property window?

The User Level setting in each User Access policy determines which logins have access to various tabs in a wizard’s Property window.

Logins with the System Administrator or Supervisor user level can access the Behavior, Defaults, and Helper tabs in the Property window.
Logins with the Staff user level can access the only the Defaults tab in the Property window.

What determines if I can save a customized properties file on a workstation or on the SirsiDynix Symphony server?

The User Access policy determines whether a login can save a customized properties file on a workstation or on the SirsiDynix Symphony server.

Logins with the System Administrator, Supervisor, or Staff user level can save a customized properties file on the workstation.
Logins to which access is granted to the Save Properties wizard can save a customized properties file to the SirsiDynix Symphony server.

In what files are delivered and customized property values saved on the SirsiDynix Symphony server and on the workstation?

The following files contain delivered and customized property settings in the /Unicorn/Config/Properties directory on the SirsiDynix Symphony server.

The font file records the font setting established by the Preference menu (on the Preference menu, point to Desktop, then click Font Settings).
The preference file stores WorkFlows session settings, such as the last window size that have been established for various windows in WorkFlows.
The property file contains customized property settings on the workstation.
The site file contains delivered property settings customized by SirsiDynix.
The system file contains delivered default property settings. This file is redelivered with each SirsiDynix Symphony upgrade.
Additional files created and named by the SirsiDynix Symphony administrator contain customized property settings.

Am I prompted to save my properties changes when I end the WorkFlows session?

The following dialog box message appears when you end the WorkFlows session:

Properties have been changed. Would you like to save changes?

If you click Yes, the property changes are saved only on the workstation in the property file. If you click No, property changes are not saved. Property changes cannot be saved to the SirsiDynix Symphony server from the dialog box message.

Only logins with access to the Save Properties wizard can save property setting modifications to the SirsiDynix Symphony server using that wizard.

Are properties files linked to user logins?

Yes. Each user login is linked to one properties file, which is used to download properties to the workstation when the login starts a WorkFlows session. A properties file is linked to a user login as follows:

Each login user has a user record that specifies a User Profile policy.
In each User Profile policy, the User Access policy is specified on the Login Attributes tab.
Each User Access policy contains the name of a properties file in the Properties field.

How do I change which properties file is linked to a user login?

Can I use a properties file that is not linked to a login?

Yes. Use the Load Properties wizard to select and load the properties file you want to use on a temporary basis.

When I change default properties as part of the wizard work flow, they aren’t saved to my workstation. Why not?

If properties are set when using a wizard (the properties window opened when you first accessed the wizard, and you made changes to the default properties), changes are not saved when exiting the client. These properties changes only take effect during the current workstation session. To save properties settings to your workstation, you must right-click the wizard icon and make your changes in this properties window. When exiting the client, you will be prompted whether or not to save changes to properties.
