Rebuild Text Database Report

The Rebuild Text Database (Rebuildtext) report removes and recreates the text database, which is used for keyword searching, from the SirsiDynix Symphony database. In SirsiDynix Symphony K12, this report is called ”Rebuild Keyword Indexes Report.”

Run this report only under the direction of SirsiDynix Customer Support. This report is password protected. If you do not know the password, see your SirsiDynix Symphony administrator.

You should not load, create, or edit any bibliographic data when the rebuild reports are running.

This report displays the following tabs.

Three types of data may be rebuilt. The Union index is your library’s primary permanent data. The dynamic index is the index that is created when new items are added or transferred at the workstation before running the Add, Delete, Update Databases report. The shadow index contains all of the titles, call numbers, or copies that have been marked as ”shadow” items so that they may be searched by staff, but not public users. Shadow and dynamic indexes are typically not segmented.

The shadow index displays for selection only if the shadow index feature is used in your library.

You would only rebuild the dynamic index if you were having difficulty retrieving recently added items or were retrieving incorrect items soon after they were added or modified. When the Add, Delete, Update Databases report is run each night between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., the dynamic index is automatically rebuilt.

If a record was being edited after the Add, Delete, Update Databases report began, the dynamic index is reorganized instead of being rebuilt.

Typically, users will choose to load the database in publication year order. This allows the most recently published titles to display first in a list retrieved from an OPAC or workstation search. Users who do have a segmented database will always load in publication year order.

The majority of customers keep all of their data in a single union database. Most users should ignore the Search DB Segment to Rebuild and the Rebuild DB Concurrently selections, which are used only by very large systems with segmented data.
