FAQs: Creating and Displaying Interest Profiles
The following procedures describe variations to the standard interest creation and display tasks.
How do I create an interest profile for a non-registered user?
Any user who is to receive outreach services must first have a SirsiDynix Symphony user record. Fields in the user record indicate whether a user is an outreach user, whether the user is currently receiving outreach services, and to which outreach route the user belongs. Interest profiles, which describe in detail the library materials of interest to the user, are also a part of the user record.
Interest profiles are created by library staff in response to the user’s description of his reading, viewing, and listening preferences.
To create an interest profile for a non-registered user

Verify that the Register New User check box is selected on the Helpers tab in the Create Interest wizard properties. |

Click the Create Interest wizard. |
The User Search window displays.
The Identify New User window displays.

Scan or type the new user ID in the User ID field, select a user profile for the user in the Profile Name list, and click OK. |

Click each tab in the User Registration window to add information about a user and his or her access. For more information on the fields used in the User Registration tabs, go to User Information Tabs. |

When you finish typing the information, click Register User. |
The Complete window displays the message Record Updated.

Click Current Wizard Task to return to the Create Interest wizard. |

Search for the user you just created. |
Since the new user is not yet an outreach user, the following message displays.
User ID: Not an outreach user

Click OK to display the Create Outreach Information window. |

Type or select the outreach information for the user on the Outreach tab. |
Note: The Route ID field is required.

Click Create Outreach. |

Click Close to return to the Create Interest wizard. |

Click Current to display the user on the Create Interest Profile window, and continue to create the interest profile for the user. |
How do I create interest profiles for non-outreach users?
You can use the Create Interest wizard to create outreach user records without leaving the wizard.
To create an interest profile for a non-outreach user

Click the Create Interest wizard. |
The User Search window displays.

Scan the user’s card, or search for the user record using the User Search window. The following message will display if you try to create an interest profile for a non-outreach user. |
User ID: Not an outreach user

Click OK to display the Create Outreach Information window. |

Type or select the outreach information for the user on the Outreach tab. |
Note: The Route ID field is required.

Click Close to return to the Create Interest wizard, and continue to create the interest profile for the user. |
How do I display interest profiles for a user who lost his library card?
Use the User Lost Card helper in the Display Interest wizard when the user cannot present a card for you to scan. This helper allows you to replace the lost card without having to leave the Display Interest wizard.
To display interest profiles for a user who lost a library card

Click the Display Interest wizard. |

Click the User Lost Card helper to locate the user record and assign a new card to the user. Refer to User Lost Card Helper for helper instructions. |
When the lost card has been deactivated and the new card has been assigned, a message displays in the Complete window.

Click Close to return to Display Interest wizard, |

Click OK to return to the Display Interest wizard, and continue to display interest profile information for the user. |
What happens if a user has no interest profiles, and I select that user in the Display Interest wizard?
If you select a user with no interest profiles in the Display Interest wizard, the following message displays.
User name has no interests.
Use the Create Interest wizard to create one or more interest profiles for the user.
How do I set display options for interest profiles?
The options to customize the information that displays in the Display Interest wizard for the interest profiles are found in the wizard’s Set Properties screen.

Right-click the Display Interest wizard, and select Properties from the popup menu. |

Click the Defaults tab. |

Under General Preferences, select one of the following Interest Display options, and click OK. |

All displays all interest profiles. |

Active displays only active interest profiles. |
