FAQs: Defining Missing and Lost Policies
The following policies are delivered and used for SirsiDynix Symphony’s lost item processing and the replacement of lost patron cards. These policies determine how the Mark Item Missing wizard, Mark Item Lost wizard, the User Lost Card wizard, the Assumed Lost report, and the Process Long Overdue Items report handle missing and lost items.

SirsiDynix recommends that you edit these policies to suit your library’s needs; do not remove them without contacting SirsiDynix Customer Support.

Some systems may be configured with the superseded user profile configuration. If so, the NOACCESS User Access and PUBLIC Environment policies must exist on the system in addition to the policies listed below.

Defining a MISSING Location Policy
The MISSING Location policy defines the current location for items that are reported as missing. The MISSING Location policy is used with the Mark Item Missing wizard. This policy is delivered with the following attributes and values.

Defining a MISSING User Profile Policy
The MISSING User Profile policy defines a user profile for the MISSING user. Items that are marked as MISSING are charged to the MISSING user ID. Charging the item to the MISSING user stops the accrual of fines (if the item had been charged to another user when it was reported missing) and allows reports to display a list of items currently charged to the MISSING user. This policy is delivered with the following attributes and values.

Defining a MISSING Circulation Map Policy
The MISSING Circulation Map policy determines the circulation rules for items when they are charged to the MISSING user ID. Generally, the rules are set so fines do not accrue, the item is not used for regular circulation, and your library has time to search for the missing item. This policy is delivered with the following attributes and values.

Defining a LOST-ASSUM Location Policy
The LOST-ASSUM Location policy describes the current location for items that are assumed to be lost but may eventually be returned to the library. These items are currently charged to users, but have been overdue for longer than the library-defined “assumed lost” threshold (for example, overdue at least 45 days). The LOST-ASSUM Location is used with the Assumed Lost (Assumedlost) report. This policy is delivered with the following attributes and values.

Defining a LOST-CLAIM Location Policy
The LOST-CLAIM Location policy describes the current location for items that have been reported by users as lost. The LOST-CLAIM location is used with the Mark Item Lost wizard. This policy is delivered with the following attributes and values.

Defining a LONGOVRDUE Location Policy
The LONGOVRDUE Location policy describes the current location for items that are assumed to be lost and never will be returned to the library. These items are currently charged to users, but have been overdue for longer than the library-defined “excessively overdue” threshold (for example, overdue at least 180 days). The LONGOVRDUE Location is used with the Process Long Overdue Items (Longoverdue) report. This policy is delivered with the following attributes and values.

Defining a LOSTCARD User Profile Policy
The LOSTCARD User Profile policy prevents a user’s lost library card from being used to check out items. When a user reports his or her card as being lost, the LOSTCARD user profile is assigned to the user ID on the lost card. The LOSTCARD user profile is used with the User Lost Card wizard. This policy is delivered with the following attributes and values.

Defining a LOSTCARD Circulation Map Policy
The LOSTCARD Circulation Map policy determines the circulation rules for items when they are charged to a user ID with a LOSTCARD user profile. Generally, the rules are set so items cannot be circulated with a card that has been reported as lost. This policy is delivered with the following attributes and values.
Attribute |
