Rebuild Item Database Report

The Rebuild Item Database (Rebuilditem) report removes and recreates the item database from the SirsiDynix Symphony database.

Run this report only under the direction of SirsiDynix Customer Support. This report is password protected. If you do not know the password, see your SirsiDynix Symphony administrator.

You should not load, create, or edit any item data when the rebuild reports are running.

This report displays the following tabs.

Two types of data may be rebuilt. The Union index is your library’s primary permanent data. The dynamic index is the index that is created when new items are added or transferred at the workstation before running the Add, Delete, Update Item report. Dynamic indexes are typically not segmented.

You would only rebuild the dynamic index if you were having difficulty retrieving recently added items or were retrieving incorrect items soon after they were added or modified. When the Add, Delete, Update Item report is run each night between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., the dynamic index is automatically rebuilt.

If a record was being edited after the Add, Delete, Update Item report began, the dynamic index is reorganized instead of being rebuilt.

Typically, users will choose to load the database in publication year order. This allows the most recently published titles to display first in a list retrieved from an OPAC or workstation search. Users who do have a segmented database will always load in publication year order.

For very large library systems that have segmented data, two additional options display: Search DB Segment to Rebuild and Rebuild DB Concurrently.
