Extract Snapshots for Reporting Report
The Extract Snapshots for Reporting report (rptviewextract in the Oracle report group or rptviewexmssql in the MSSQL report group) creates or updates ”materialized views” or ”snapshots” of SirsiDynix Symphony databases. These data snapshots are used by Web Reporter for more efficient reporting.
For example, the Extract Snapshots for Reporting report can create a snapshot of cataloging data. Web Reporter can look at this data snapshot and create a view to print a report that lists just titles and author names without needing to pull the data from the database for each query.
Contact SirsiDynix Client Sales for information on using Web Reporter with SirsiDynix Symphony.
Extract Snapshots for Reporting contains the following tabs.
• | Basic Tab: Reports |
• | Snapshot Tab |
This report is used only in libraries that use Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server databases, and can only be run by a user with a user profile that has access to this report
Before using Web Reporter for the first time, you must run this report with all snapshots selected (and, for Oracle, with the Update option cleared). This is normally done as part of a Web Reporter install.
After creating the initial snapshots, snapshots should be scheduled to run daily, during off-peak hours, to refresh snapshot data regularly.

Depending on your library data and the snapshots you select, this report may require hours to run especially with large amounts of data. When the report is used to create or recreate snapshots, you may want to schedule the report to run on a weekend or other off-peak time.
The snapshots you select and how often you update them depends on your library data. For example, if your library does not use requests, you do not need to create or update request snapshots. If your vendor information is static, you might choose to update vendor snapshots only weekly or monthly, depending on your needs. If user information changes daily, you will need to update your user snapshots daily to ensure that your reports are not out of date.
You may configure any of these snapshots.
