Consortium Membership Wizard

The Consortium Membership policy is used to create a consortium hierarchy from libraries belonging to consortium groups, represented by Consortium Group policies. The Consortium Membership policy represents the top level of the hierarchy. For example, the MAIN consortium hierarchy may be represented by the grouping of two Consortium Group policies: NORTH and SOUTH. NORTH and SOUTH each contain their own library branches (library policies). This policy structure can be represented in the following way:

MAIN (Consortium Membership)
NORTH (Consortium Group)
Northeast Library (Library)
Northwest Library (Library)
SOUTH (Consortium Group)
Southeast Library (Library)
Southwest Library (Library)

SirsiDynix Symphony uses this policy (if it exists) to determine how libraries are grouped and displayed in the call number/item tree. If your consortium would prefer to customize how libraries are grouped and displayed for the libraries in your consortium, you can create Library Display Profile policies with custom structures that vary from the one you set in the Consortium Membership policy. For more information on the Library Display Profile policy, see the Library Display Profile Wizard help topic.

Only one Consortium Membership policy can exist on the SirsiDynix Symphony server at a time; you can modify or remove the policy after its creation, but if a Consortium Membership policy already exists, WorkFlows does not allow another policy to be created.

From the List Policies window, you can create, display, modify, or remove the Consortium Membership policy. Click Close to exit the wizard.

Attributes

The Consortium Membership policy contains the following attributes:

Name

The Name attribute represents a specific consortium. This name is ten characters or less, and may not include spaces or punctuation, except for dash (-), underscore (_), and dollar sign ($). Additionally, the pipe character (|) may not be used.

Description

This attribute provides more information about the policy and its use by the library. The description may be up to 60 characters in length. Although the Description attribute may contain spaces and punctuation, the pipe character (|) cannot be used.

Consortium Groups

This attribute specifies which Consortium Group policies make up the membership of this Consortium Membership policy. Click the Policy List gadget and select Consortium Group policies from the list.

Note: SirsiDynix Symphony does not allow duplication of Library policies among the Consortium Group policies you select. For example, if you attempt to save the Consortium Membership policy and both the NORTH and SOUTH Consortium Group policies contained an EAST Library policy, WorkFlows would return an error message reporting the duplication of Library policies among the relevant Consortium Group policies.
