Advanced Search Helper

The Advanced Search helper allows you to perform catalog keyword searches using multiple criteria. You can search multiple indexes using Boolean operators. Additionally, the searches can be limited by library, or all libraries can be searched. The defaults for this helper are set in the Item Search and Display Wizard properties on the Helpers tab. Any number of search combinations can be configured using the eight available search index fields.

This helper is available in all cataloging wizards, but its availability is controlled by the Item Search and Display wizard properties. To display this helper, select the Advanced Search box on the Helpers tab in the Item Search and Display wizard properties. To configure the defaults for the helper, click the Configure button on this tab.

To search using multiple criteria

Index – Select search indexes from the drop-down lists. The search indexes that appear are defined in the Catalog Search Fields Global Configuration policy (Catalog Search Fields Policy). Up to eight indexes can be configured for searching. If an index field is left blank, the field will not appear in the Item Search window. For example, if you select Title, Author, and Per Title, only these three search fields will appear in the advanced search pane in the Item Search window. By default, General and Title are selected.
Operator – Select Boolean operators from the drop-down lists to create the various search combinations. Select either AND, NOT, OR, or XOR. AND is selected by default.

If the Advanced Search check box is cleared in the Item Search and Display wizard properties, this helper will not appear in the cataloging wizards.

Only keyword searching is supported by this helper. For information about the keyword search indexes, see Search Indexes. The Call Number, Item ID, and Title Control Number search indexes are not available in this helper.

The existing search is retained when the Advanced Search helper is activated or de-activated. Additionally, the Current Record functionality is retained for the advanced search.

When the advanced search is activated, the Previous Search and Next Search helpers are unavailable.
