Exact Search

The Exact search option displays a single record of the search index you used. This option is best for specific number or code searches. If the exact ID is not in the database, a message displays that the information was not found.

You can use the Exact search option to go directly to records using these search indexes.

• Call Number
• Control ID
• Course ID
• HR SICI
• Instructor ID
• Item ID
• Job ID
• Order ID
• Packing List
• Requisition Number
• SISAC ID
• Title Control Number

Exact Search can also be used to perform other types of searches, particularly those used to search catalog records.

• If the exact heading is found, and there is only one matching catalog record, that record displays.
• If the exact heading is found, and there is more than one matching catalog record, the hit list displays.
• If the exact heading is not found, a browse list of neighboring headings displays.

The Exact Search option behaves this way when using these search indexes.

• Account Number (Fund data)

• General (Retrieves only from the subject index)
• Medical Subject
• Periodical Title (Retrieves only from the periodical index)

These search indexes retrieve a browse list using the Exact search.

• Course Name (Reserve data)
• Instructor Name (Reserve data)

Searching an empty search string is not supported in an Exact search.
