Why is there more than one routing slip report?
When the Serial Control module was redesigned in SirsiDynix Symphony 99, the Serial Control Routing Slips Report (Routingslip) would no longer limit the routing lists printed to only those of received copies. Instead, it would print all routing lists for the selected issues, even if some copies of an issue had not yet been received. For sites that rely on the Routingslip report to print all of their routing lists, this wastes paper, and makes sorting through all of the printed lists tedious.
The New Routing Slips Report prints only those routing slips for copies that have already been received. To work properly with serial controls since SirsiDynix Symphony 99, the report uses the serial distribution records attached to the prediction or issue records for which routing slips are being printed. The serial distribution records the number of copies that have been received under a particular holding code, as well as the number of copies that have had a routing slip printed for them in the past.
The New Routing Slips report prints only those routing slips which have not already been printed, and only those which are for copies that have already been received. For partial receipts of an issue in a multilibrary Serials environment, New Routing Slips prints the routing slips of the appropriate library, based on the holding code with which the received copy or copies were loaded.
To prevent the slips from being printed again in the future, the report updates the distribution records for each routing slip printed. Once a routing slip is printed for a received copy of an issue using the New Routing Slip report, it will never be selected by that report again. For this reason, the Serial Control Routing List was retained. If another copy of the routing list is required for some reason, you can get it from the Serial Control Routing Slips report.
What are the differences between the Serial Control Routing Slips and the New Routing Slips reports?
The most important difference between the two routing reports is that the New Routing Slips report prints only received copies on received issues which have never been printed, and the Serial Control Routing Slips report prints all copies on received issues, whether or not they have all been received or have been printed previously.
The report selections for the New Routing Slips report are the same as the Serial Control Routing Slips report, except that the Routing Selection has been removed. Because this report is driven by prediction records, there is no way to disqualify individual routings.
The routing slips generated by New Routing Slip are identical to those of the Serial Control Routing Slip report.
