FAQs: Using Sound Files in Circulation
Several of the Circulation wizards play a sound file when specific errors, warnings, or alerts display.
Which Circulation wizards have sound file properties?
The Checkout wizard and Discharge/Checkin wizard have sound file properties.
Why don’t I hear sounds for the Circulation wizards?
You may not hear sounds for Circulation wizards for any of the following reasons.

The workstation does not have a sound card. |
|
•
|
The sound properties for the Circulation wizards are unavailable. |
|
•
|
The workstation is not configured to play multimedia files. To configure the workstation to play multimedia files, see the vendor documentation for your workstation, or ask the person who services your workstation. |

|
The volume setting for your workstation is turned down. |
|
•
|
The sound player on your workstation has its Mute setting on. To turn off the Mute setting and make the sound player available, see the vendor documentation for your sound player, or ask the person who services your workstation. |

•
|
If you have speakers attached to the workstation, they may not be connected properly. See the vendor documentation delivered with the speakers, or ask the person who services your workstation. |
How do I turn sounds on or off?
Sounds can be turned on or off for the Checkout wizard and Discharge/Checkin wizard.
To turn sounds on or off

Point to the Checkout or Discharge/Checkin wizard’s toolbar button, right-click, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu. |

Click the Behavior tab, if needed. |

Under Sounds, select or clear any of the Play Sound for check boxes. |
If you select a Play Sound for check box, the specified sound file plays when the particular alert occurs in WorkFlows. Use the Select File gadget to select the sound file you want to play for the alert.
If you do not want a sound file to play when a particular alert occurs, clear the corresponding Play Sound for check box.

In which directory are the default sound files?
When you install or upgrade your SirsiDynix Symphony product, the sound files are delivered to the Sound subdirectory of the product directory. For example, if your product directory is C:\Program Files\Sirsi\Workflows, the full path to the sound files is C:\Program Files\Sirsi\Workflows\Sound.
How do I select my own sound files for the Circulation wizards?
If you don’t want to use the default sound files, you can select the .wav file you want to use. Only valid sound files with a .wav file extension can be selected.
To select a sound file

Point to the Checkout or Discharge/Checkin wizard’s toolbar button, right-click, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu. |

Click the Behavior tab, if needed. |

If needed, select the Play Sound for check box of the sound you want to change. |
The corresponding sound file ld becomes available.

Click the Select File gadget to select the sound file (.wav file) you want to use. |
