URL Checker Options Tab
The URL Checker Options tab contains options that are used to update the 856 subfield u, or to include selected 856 field information in the report output. This tab may contain any of the following fields.

| • | Report 856 subfield up’s that do not contain the ”http://” prefix? |
| • | Report 856 fields that do not contain a subfield u? |
| • | Report multiple 856 subfield u’s? |
| • | Report valid 856 subfield u’s? |
If a ”Referral URL” is found, update the 856 subfield u?
If this check box is selected, any 856 entry that points to a URL which is a referral web site will be updated in the 856 field of your bibliographic or holding record. Note that the 856 entry will only be updated if the most common web referral method is checked. If this check box is cleared, then the referral link is reported, but the 856 |u of the bibliographic or holding record is not updated.
For example, this is sample HTML code for an auto-forwarding URL. After 5 seconds, the user is referred to the SirsiDynix web page.

If the URL the report is searching for exists and it contains the above specific ”refresh” mechanism in the META tag, then the specified URL within the tag is checked. If the specified URL is found, then this new URL is listed as ”found” in the report; otherwise the URL is reported as invalid. If the new URL (in the META tag) is also a referral page, then the URL will be reported as found, but it will not be checked again. It will be corrected on a subsequent run of the report where the If a ’Referral’ URL is found, update the 856 subfield u? check box is selected. If a site has moved and contains a link to an alternate page, but does not have specific automatic refresh coding in the META tag, then the page will be reported as found. There is no way to report the URL to which that page is linked.
Report 856 subfield up’s that do not contain the ”http://” prefix?
If this check box is selected, any 856 |u that is missing its http:// prefix will be reported. If this check box is cleared, missing http:// prefixes are not reported.
Report 856 fields that do not contain a subfield u?
If this check box is selected, any 856 field that does not contain a |u URL is reported in the result. If this check box is cleared, all missing |u fields are always reported. The URL Checker report checks only |u URL addresses. If you select this check box, and you use the 856 for other types of electronic access, those addresses will all be reported. If you have Hyperion, and you select this check box, all of the 856 |fIARC links to the digital media database will be reported as not containing a |u.
Report multiple 856 subfield u’s?
If this check box is selected, any single 856 that contains multiple u subfields is reported. The MARC standard is to enter multiple URLs in multiple 856 tags. The |u should not be repeated within the same 856 entry. If multiple u subfields exist in a single 856, they may still display correctly in the web catalog, but they are not checked by the URL Checker report. When multiple |u URLs are reported, you can modify the entry to place each |u in its own 856 entry. Once each |u is in a separate 856, the URL Checker will check them all.
If this check box is cleared, multiple u subfields in a single 856 are not reported and the URLs in those subfields are not checked.
Report valid 856 subfield u’s?
If this check box is selected, 856 entries that contain valid |u URLs are printed. If this check box is cleared, only the URLs that are either not found or that contain an automatic referral web site incorrect are reported.
