MARC Edit Tab
The MARC Edit tab displays for reports that can modify MARC information in bibliographic records. The following MARC Edit tab options may or may not be available, depending on the report.
• | Edit Operation |
• | Entry IDs |
• | Existing String |
• | Replacement String |
• | String to Match |
• | Substitute for Every Occurrence |
• | Substitute String |
• | Update Database |
One of the following edit operations must be selected.
• | Delete removes the specified entry. The entire entry is deleted, not the specified text. |
• | Replace Entire Entry replaces the entire text of the selected entry with the text typed in the Replacement String field, up to 100 characters. |
• | Substitute with New Data identifies the text that will be replaced in the Existing Text field and the text that will be replacing it in the Substitute String field. Each of these fields extend to 100 characters. Text strings are case and punctuation sensitive and are not whole word matching. For instance, searching ”cat” will select ”cat,” ”catalog,”and ”scatter.” Make sure that if leading spaces are used, that they are the same in both strings. If this option is selected, you may additionally specify whether the text should be substituted for every occurrence by selecting or clearing the Substitute for Every Occurrence check box. |
This field is required. Text will only be modified if it displays in the specified entry or entries. Use the Entry List gadget to select Entry IDs.
This field is required when Substitute With New Data is selected for the Edit Operation option. Use the String List gadget, or type a string or strings to match up to 100 characters. Bibliographic records that contain the entered search text will be selected by the report.
This field is required when either Replace or Replace Entire Entry is selected for the Edit Operation option. Type the string that will replace the string entered in the String to Match field.
This field is required. It allows you to select a record to edit based on the existence of a particular string or strings of text, even if that is not the text string to be edited. Use the String List gadget, or type a string or strings to match up to 100 characters. Commas are permissible. Text strings are case and punctuation sensitive and are not whole word matching. For instance, searching ”cat” will select ”cat,” ”catalog,”and ”scatter.”
If you put a leading space on the String to Match, you can eliminate embedded string matches such as matching ”cat” in ”scatter;” however, the system does not recognize a trailing space.
Substitute for Every Occurrence
If this check box is selected, all occurrences of the text within the entry will be selected and substituted. If this check box is cleared, only the first occurrence within the entry will be substituted.
This field is required when Substitute With New Data is selected for the Edit Operation option. The text entered in the Substitute String field will replace the text entered in the Existing String field for bibliographic records that were selected by the report. Use the String List gadget, or type a string or strings to match up to 100 characters.
If this check box is selected, changes are made to the selected bibliographic records. If this check box is cleared, the report runs, identifies the records that would be changed, but does not make any changes. Changes may not be searchable until the Add, Delete, Update Databases report is run.
