FAQs: Policies for Configuring the Academic Reserves Module
When configuring the Academic Reserves module, it is important to define the following policies.

Special Circulation Rule policies can be created for reserves loans (usually in hours), and alternate circulation rules for reserves that are checked out within minutes of the library’s closing and are due after the reserve desk opens the next day.
Course records are created for each course and are assigned a Course Term policy.
Course records may include notes and comments. A Course Extended Information format is delivered with each system configured to use Academic Reserves. The format may be modified, if desired.
Course Term policies need to be defined for the library’s course terms (semesters or quarters). Course Term policies are linked to course records.
A RESERVES Location policy is delivered with each system configured to use Academic Reserves. In a multilibrary system, different reserves locations may be created for each library.
Reserve control records are created for each item on reserve. Reserve records are linked to a Reserve Desk policy, instructor, and course records.
Reserve records may include notes and comments. A Reserve Extended Information format is delivered with each system configured to use Academic Reserves. The format may be modified, if desired.
A Reserve Desk policy, RESERVES, is delivered with every system configured to use the Academic Reserves module. If your library has multiple reserve desks with different hours of operation, you will need to create additional Reserve Desk policies. In a multilibrary system, Reserve Desk policies will need to be created for each library that has a reserve desk.
Each reserve desk must have a reserves user record. The user record must be assigned the RESERVES User Profile policy. In a multilibrary system, reserves user records should be created for each library.
A RESERVES User Profile policy is delivered with each system configured to use Academic Reserves. The RESERVES user profile affords special privileges for the Reserves user.
