FAQs: Starting and Stopping SirsiDynix Symphony for Windows Server Services within ARCserve Backups

Many libraries wish to use ARCserve backup tools to back up their SirsiDynix Symphony for Windows Servers. However, SirsiDynix Symphony for Windows Servers services must be halted before the backup begins, and then started again after completion of the backup.

In order to schedule this task with these backup tools, an option to run a “pre” backup command and a “post” backup command must be used. Please refer to your ARCserve release documentation for the details of these features.

Before initiating the backup, you will need to type the following command line in a “pre” step to automatically halt SirsiDynix Symphony for Windows Servers services.

CMD /c D:\sirsi\Unicorn\Bin\auto_haltrun.bat halt

After completion of the backup, you will need to type the following command line in a “post” step to automatically start SirsiDynix Symphony for Windows Servers services.

CMD /c D:\sirsi\Unicorn\Bin\auto_haltrun.bat run

For an explanation of the auto_haltrun script, see FAQs: Creating an Automatic Server Halt and Run Script for Windows Servers.
