Customize Policy List Wizard
Using the Customize Policy List wizard, it is possible to customize the list of policies presented in wizard lists and policy selection gadgets, such as the Policy List gadget. You can control the policies users can select in wizards and gadgets. Some policies may be specific to a library, and this wizard can be used to display only these library-specific policies.
To customize policy lists
1
Click the Customize Policy List wizard. |
2
Module tabs with lists of policies that can be customized appear. Not all policies are included in these lists, only those that can be customized. Click a Module tab. For this example, click the Circulation tab. |
3
A list of circulation policies that can be customized appears. The Per Library column to the left of each policy description indicates whether or not the policy list has been customized for any library. |
4
Select a policy on this tab, such as the Payment Type policy, and click Customize. |
5
The first time you customize a policy, a confirmation dialog box appears and asks whether you want to customize this policy system-wide or by library. Click either the System Wide or Per Library or Per Library radio button. If you click System Wide, the lists you create will display to all libraries on the system. If you click Per Library, the lists you create will display to specific libraries. By default, System Wide is selected. |
Note: The confirmation will not appear again. You will need to use the customize policy list helpers to make changes to custom policy lists.
Customizing Policy Lists System Wide

If you select System Wide in the confirmation dialog box, the wizard will display all possible policy values for the selected policy that appear on the system. For instance, the wizard will display all Payment Type policies created for your system. |

Or, click Excludes Selected Policies and select the check boxes next to the policies you want to exclude from the customized policy list. This method is effective if you are only excluding a few policies. |

With either option, you can click Select All or Unselect All to select or clear all policy check boxes. You cannot exclude all policies from policy lists; at least one policy must be included. |
For example, if you click Excludes Selected Policies, and select the check box next to the Credit Card policy, Credit Card will not appear in any payment type lists, nor in any policy selection gadget for payment type. All other Payment Type policies will appear in these lists.

Important Considerations When Using this Wizard
•
Only logins linked to User Access policies that have the Show Customized Policy List attribute selected will display the customized policy lists. For more information, see the User Access Wizard topic. |
•
Some policies appear on multiple module tabs to make it easier to find them. For instance, the Item Type policy appears on the Cataloging tab and the Circulation tab. This does not imply, however, that these policies can be customized by module. You can create only one customized list for a policy, per library or system-wide. |
•
Not all policies can be customized. The types of policies that are excluded are map policies (such as Circulation Map) because they are order-sensitive, single instance policies (such as OPAC Administration) that don’t require customizing, entry ID and format policies because they need to be consistent throughout the system, barcode policies because they only appear when configuring barcodes, and global configuration policies because they are for system-wide configuration. |
•
There is a limit to the number of Holding Code policies that can be customized per library. Approximately 900 codes can be customized if the codes are 10 characters long (maximum size). If the codes are shorter, more codes can be customized. |
•
Only one user at a time can work with policies. This is a safeguard to prevent users from modifying the same policy at the same time. |
•
If a user is logged in to a library that does not have access to a particular policy, the wizards will display asterisks in the policy field. This will alert the user of a configuration problem. |
